BREAKING NEWS A NIGHTMARE TURNED INTO REALITY A WOMAN’S SUV WITH HER NINE MONTH OLD BABY INSIDE IS STOLEN. THE DES MOINES POLICE FOUND THE BABY SAFE JUST BLOCKS AWAY AND BREAKING TONIGHT AT SIX. THEY HAVE CHARGED THE GUY THEY SAY DID IT. THIS IS COREY LEE. HE’S NOW FACING THEFT AND CHILD NEGLECT CHARGES. KCCI MARCUS MCINTOSH IS LIVE TONIGHT WHERE THE FRANTIC SEARCH ENDED. MARCUS. THIS WAS ABOUT AS GOOD OF AN ENDING AS WE ALL COULD HOPE FOR. THAT IS SO TRUE. BEN AND STACEY, AS YOU MENTIONED, IT ALL ENDED HERE IN THE IN THE OFFICEMAX PARKING LOT HERE ON INGERSOLL. AND POLICE SAY IT WAS A TRYING MOMENT OF TIME, BUT THEY WERE HAPPY TO GET THINGS DONE. AND WE’RE BOTH BABY AND THE SUV WERE SAFELY RECOVERED RIGHT HERE. A FRIGHTENING SITUATION STARTED IN AN INSTANT. PARENTS STEPPED AWAY FOR A SECOND. SOMEBODY JUMPED INTO THE CAR AND TOOK IT. 2301 INGERSOLL CALLER STATED THAT THEY WERE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING HERE, AND SOMEBODY TOOK OFF IN THEIR BLACK MERCEDES WITH A BABY IN THE BACK SEAT. THE INTENSE WORRY OF A MOTHER WHOSE CHILD WAS MISSING, MATCHED BY THE INTENSITY OF THE POLICE LOOKING TO FIND HER BABY AND HER VEHICLE LAST SEEN AT OAK RIDGE NORTH SIDE, ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AGO. THIS ONE WENT ON FOR A LITTLE BIT LONGER THAN MOST OF US WERE COMFORTABLE WITH. POLICE TELL US SITUATIONS LIKE THIS ARE NOT COMMON AND USUALLY END FAIRLY QUICKLY. THEY USED EVERY RESOURCE THEY COULD TO LOCATE THE STOLEN SUV. WE ARE WORKING ON PINGING THE PHONE TECHNOLOGY THAT MAY NOT HAVE SAVED THE DAY, BUT CERTAINLY HELPED OFFICER MATT INGERSOLL SEVEN, 84, BELIEVES THEY MIGHT HAVE EYES ON THE ON THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY, THE CHILD’S WELL, THAT’S THE BEST NEWS THAT WE HAVE TO REPORT. WE SPOKE WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ARE ON SCENE COMFORTING THE MOTHER AND BABY. WATCH ABOVE: Stolen SUV recovered, baby found safe inside

A 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL 350 was reported stolen Friday morning in the 2300 block of Ingersoll Avenue. A 9-month-old baby was strapped in a car seat inside.

After a search, the child and the vehicle were located just before noon in the 2700 block of Ingersoll. The child was found safe.

Hours later, police said they had arrested Corey Van Le, 32, of Des Moines.
