Updated on June 24, 2024: With both the Coasts of Croakia and Skies of Azoria DLC out now for Fae Farm, we're updating our Mining guide for the game to include information about the resources added in the DLC, as well as more info on how to use your ores in Fae Farm.
What Are Ores And Gemstones?
As you work your way through the mystical happenings in Azoria when you first begin playing Fae Farm, your initial exposure to mining is clearing rocks from your Homestead. It's a solid introduction to how to use your pickax to break up rock clusters - something you'll be doing a good amount of once you begin diving into the game's dungeons.
When you do, you'll discover all sorts of ore nodes containing different metals, as well as gemstone nodes in various colors and materials that produce a rainbow of gems. There are also Coal and Clay rocks to be found, which are less-noticeable rounder, dark rocks than the ones that produce Stone.
While you'll also be breaking up a good amount of Stone for construction projects back home, ores, gems, and Coal rocks seem to be limited to dungeons only. If you want the good stuff, you'll have to be brave.
Each dungeon has its own set of ores and gems available, so you'll be going back and forth quite a bit if you find yourself needing more. There are two ores and four gemstones in each dungeon, offering quite the spread of resources. Naturally, rarer and more expensive resources are late-game grabs, so don't worry too much until you begin progressing through Fae Farm's story.
You'll need to upgrade your pickax consistently to keep up with your work, though, as tougher ores require more hits, and some may not break if your pickax isn't strong enough. You'll run into this fairly early on when Cleo instructs you through Saltwater Mines in Chapter Three, occasionally requesting tool upgrades before she lets you continue.
Like with the rest of your tools, visit Cinder the Blacksmith to upgrade as necessary. She'll offer two tool upgrades per dungeon throughout the main story in Fae Farm, and you'll want the upgrades before long in the progressively more difficult dungeons.
Mining uses Energy, and more of it than you expect, so be sure to bring plenty of food if you're in for a long day in the Mines. You'll also find some green energy floating throughout town after it gets dark each night, so it's never a bad idea to pop outside to gather some free energy and head back in to finish your tasks.
Plenty of ores and gemstones will be required to make assorted seals you'll need to keep progress through dungeons open and fast travel across the region, so be mindful to keep some on hand. Each region tends to use the gemstones and ore found in the dungeon in that region, so it's not a bad idea to keep some of everything in your storage.
